PBG PhD student Marta recently presented to DBCA staff on the results of her PhD internship. Marta undertook her internship with Perth Zoo under the supervision of Dr Harriet Mills (Leader, Perth Zoo Science Program). During her internship, she conducted research on ant diversity at Perth Zoo: she undertook comprehensive sampling using hand-sampling, pitfall trapping, and baited traps across the different zones of the zoo grounds to determine the native and invasive species present. Marta reported the results of the survey back to Perth Zoo via a presentation, and written report where she outlined the species present, their native/invasive status, and recommendations for control and management actions, where relevant.
